When speaking about virtual reality, one thing we rarely talk about is movies inside of the headset. Whether it be 2D, 3D, 180°, or 360°, it is something that is rarely discussed. 2D movies are usually better and have more support out of headsets, and we have yet to see a 3D 360° film that is up to par with 2D films. There are plenty of factors going into this problem. One of the biggest is publicity. No great directors want to get their movie in VR because of the lack of audience and the money that won’t come from any deal.
Paramount Pictures is taking a risk, but they have made a deal with Bigscreen VR for a few years of movie distribution inside of virtual reality. This deal is going to give Bigscreen the ability to show Paramount movies across 10 different counties. Although the list isn’t riddled with blockbuster movies, it is still a list worth tuning in for.
These movies aren’t coming for free though. You need to purchase your tickets on the Bigscreen website. The ticket prices are going to vary from country to country, but you can expect them to be below $5 per movie. The countries that can purchase tickets to these movies are the US, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Australia, and Japan.
You can get the Bigscreen Beta app for the Oculus Quest, Rift Platform, Oculus Go, and on all Steam compatible headsets. This is a free streaming app for all VR users. You can find the movie list for the next few weeks below.
