The annual Oculus Summer Sale launched today for the Rift platform and the Oculus Go, but the Oculus Quest seems to be excluded from the reduced prices this year.
Many were shocked about the exclusion of the Quest, but signs have been pointing to this happening for some time now. The Quest is the best standalone headset on the market right now, and deducing prices for the titles on it wouldn’t make much marketing sense right now. The Quest is Facebook’s number one money-maker through VR right now, as it quickly earned $5 million in content sales. By now, we can almost guarantee that number has doubled. There is no reason to discount the games people will buy either way.
For the Oculus Rift, there is a plethora of games for you to choose from that you can now get at cheaper price point. If you are into the zombie killing inside of virtual reality, Oculus has paired Killing Floor: Incursion and Arizona Sunshine together for a great package of just $25.99. That is a killer deal for your killing habits. If you are just getting into virtual gaming, or you are looking for a more fun and original feel for your Rift, you can get the Oculus Original Premium Pack. In this you are going to get Oculus Studios best 10 games all for a bargain price. The pack in whole is $129.99 and has games such as The Unspoken The Mage’s Tale, Lone Echo, Arktikal, and more original titles. Although that seems pricey, you will find that each game is well worth the $13 you will be essentially paying for each title.
Something to not about this sale is the lack of inclusion of the Quest. Even games that are cross-buy compatible with the Quest and Rift will be un-playable on the Quest if you buy them with the discounted price. It may seem a little stingy, but Oculus knows what they are doing when it comes to content sales and driving sales for their newest and best virtual reality headset.
The Oculus Go is also going to be included in this summer sale. Just like the Rift, you are going to see many titles go for much less than they are originally being sold for, so now is going to be a great time to purchase the games you have been thinking about.
The Oculus Go’s featured pack is the Grand Essentials Pack that will include (what Oculus thinks are) the best 10 games you can get on the Oculus Go. These are Virtual Virtual Reality, Eclipse: Edge of Light, Drop Dead, End Space, Wander, Rush, Ocean Rift, Nature Treks VR, Covert, and Death Horizon. Each of these will hold your attention for a solid amount of time in your headset, especially because the length is good for a media-focused headset. This pack comes in at a price point of $45.99.
If you are looking for an immersive flight simulating game, you can find Overflight for a simple $3.99 right now. Another traveling game is Star Chart, a game in which you can see each of the stars in the galaxy and explore them for only $2.99 right now. This is a price to keep in mind. You can find many more discounted games on the Oculus storefront.
If you own a Vive or Index, or simply prefer to use the SteamVR store, they are also having their annual summer sale right now. Over there you are going to find some great titles for your PC headset that have been marked down in price a great amount.
