In a collaboration that was meant to make splashes, Sony, MWM Immersive, and Tequila Works came together to make their upcoming VR game Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son. This game is set to launch on the Rift platforms, HTC Vive, and the PSVR in September. This game is not expected to be compatible on the Oculus Quest or the new Valve Index.

Groundhog Day is being labeled as a VR narrative adventure. The game is being based off of the 1993 film Groundhog Day, and will have an area nearly the exact same. If you are looking to get this exciting game, it will be available on September 17th globally on Steam and the Oculus store for $30. You are going to be able to pre-order this game on the 20th of August, and Playstation Plus members will receive a whopping $3 off the original price.

For a limited time as well, the pre-orders inside of the US will receive a code to watch the movie Groundhog’s day on their digital devices. Note that this code will not be working if you are trying to watch the film inside of the headset.

This this VR thriller, you are gong to be tossed back in time to the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania as the main character. You will be playing as Phil Connors Jr, who is the son of the father Phil Connors. The game is going to trap you in a never ending day, just like the real movie. You are going to be tasked with doing puzzles, finding clues, and ultimately getting out of the never ending day you are living continuously.

The game will be played while you are in a first person view. Inside of the game trailer you are going to notice the amount of this you are able to do inside of the game with your virtual hands. It seems like this is modern take on the classic fun, and you can tell the developers had a fun time putting it all together. You are going to be solving a lot of puzzles to break the loop of this never-ending day.

One game that this seems like is I Expect You To Die. Although Groundhogs day is going to be much more of an inclusive experience, the game engines and the idea of the games seem to be going hand in hand. You are going to be first person and you are going to be solving clues and puzzles to get out of the situation that you found yourself in. Another part that Groundhog’s Day has another edge in is the mobility of the character.

It seems that for the most part, you are going to be 100% responsible for the situations you walk into. In the trailer, you seem Phil put a metal fork in the toaster. I don’t think the storyline of this game is angled to kill yourself in it, so we are assuming that the locomotion of this game is going to be pretty free and easy to operate.

With the game already less than a month away from release, you can expect the excitement to build up pretty quickly. This game is a little more expensive than your average virtual reality title, but the price and producers are a promising sign of a title that you are going to be able to play for not only hours, but weeks as well. For a price point of $30, you can expect Groundhog’s Day: Like Father Like Son to be an instant classic on available platforms.
