The Oculus Quest has been sold out in many regions and countries throughout the last few months, but the latest title describing the availability of the Quest is slightly different than any of the other titles we’ve seen. Right now, the Oculus Quest is simply “unavailable” in 17 of the 23 regions that the unit is being sold. Facebook isn’t taking the blame though, and has tossed all of that on the Coronavirus. This outbreak is taking the lives of many, with a death toll reaching over 600.

Roadtovr reached out to Oculus and Facebook to see what the delay was about, and when to expect the Quest to be back on the shelves. You can find their statement below.

“Oculus Quest has been selling out in some regions due to high demand. That said, like other companies we’re expecting some additional impact to our hardware production due to the Coronavirus. We’re taking precautions to ensure the safety of our employees, manufacturing partners and customers, and are monitoring the situation closely.”

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Like Oculus said, they aren’t the only ones finding some delays with this deadly disease. The first case found on the last day of 2019, and since has been spreading. The vast majority of the cases have been contained to China though, the same country the Oculus Quest is produced and packaged in.

Ever since the final days of November 2019, Oculus has seen the Quest take some hefty back orders. Now with their production being in question, they aren’t allowing the Quest to get any more backorders until this matter is put to rest. The ‘unavailable’ tag that the headset has now isn’t something you can click on. You cannot order the Oculus Quest right now.

The regions that aren’t selling the Quest right now are:

  • United States
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Canada
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Iceland
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • South Korea
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland

If you do receive a shipment from China, don’t worry about its too much. The World Health Organization is on record saying that “Yes, it is safe. People receiving packages from China are not at risk of contracting the new coronavirus. From previous analysis, we know coronaviruses do not survive long on objects, such as letters or packages.”

If you are looking to buy right now, Best Buy will be your best bet. We have been keeping an eye on availability throughout the month, and Best Buy is consistently adding hardware to their selection. You can buy the Oculus Link, the 128GB Quest, and all supported accessories right now. The 64GB headset is sold out as of right now though.
