Pistol Whip had their first official trailer today. To put how this trailer looks into one word, we would choose the word awesome. This game looks like it could be one of the best to ever be inside of virtual reality. Cloudhead Games have done a fantastic job at making this game grab attention early on, and that was before we even had a release date. (the release date is the last frame of the trailer)

Releasing on November 7th for the Oculus Quest, Rift Platforms, SteamVR, and Viveport, Pistol Whip is going to be the next big thing inside of virtual reality. This game has been anticipated for months now, and our first look at it is the best look we have seen from a VR game in recent memory. This is labeled as an action-rhythm FPS, and it seems just like it. The first time we saw a small glimpse of this game, we thought it was going to be one of those sorry Beat Saber knock-offs that generate some real buzz and up being a complete dud. This game seems like it is going to be everything but that.

This game is going to put you in the place of every action movie star as you will become an expert with the pistol very early on in the game. Cloudhead games seems to be relying on the pistol and shooting aspects of this game than the rhythm, and that will serve them right. This game will be better off being itself than trying to recreate something amazing. The Cloudhead Games Ceo said that “There’s all these great action movies. How do we pull a user in a relentless, unstoppable way through an action sequence in a movie. What people want is the power fantasy of having a gun and feeling like they are a badass action movie hero, but they don’t necessarily have the skills to be a John Wick or somebody like that. People don’t inherently have that accuracy, and the coordination necessarily to do all these crazy things with their weapon, so we just kept pulling back on what the user needed to come out of an experience feeling satisfied and feeling like it fulfilled that fantasy for them.”

With all of that being said, it is clear the developers were messing with how realistic it is. the pistol is going to be pretty forgiving with how accurate it has to be, and the enemies are going to be a lot easier to kill than Jason Bourne’s enemies. This game is meant to be fun and easy to play. The realism won’t be there, but the fun certainly will be.

This game is going to be fun to rock out to as well, as the first release is going to feature 10 songs from Kannibalen Records. There are plans for common updates in the game, as well as new music being released. This depends on how many people are playing the game, but it is going to be likely that they update the game either way. This game is going to be a staple in VR for the years to come, and the designer of the game thinks it could even bring people to VR for the first time.

Anthony Stevens, the head designer of this game, says that “There’s a subset of people who we still need to get into VR. We still need to get people coming back into VR and Beat Saber is a great example of doing that. It’s great for first time players, its great for return players. It’s a solid product. But I mean — it’s not everyone — and maybe we hit the other side of the coin with Pistol Whip.”

There is no price released yet for this game, but we can expect it to be in the $20 range. As we mentioned earlier, this game will be on all major VR systems, with a release on the PSVR system just a little down the road. November 7th can’t come soon enough.
