Late last week, we saw Vive come out and announce the new lineup of the Cosmos series. The Cosmos Play, the Cosmos Elite, and the Cosmos XR were all announced and certain specs were shown off. The first to get a hard release date? The Cosmos Elite. This headset is available for pre-orders starting today. It will cost you $900 and will be shipped to you on March 18th.

If you are curious about this headset and what the entire Cosmos series looks like, you can check out our breakdown of the entire series

All of the Cosmos headsets are built upon the same foundation. Each headset has the classic Vive flip-up feature, fresnel lenses, 1,440 × 1,700 LCD displays, and the hardware IPD adjustment option. The Vive Cosmos Elite varies with its outside-in face plate tracking. This is going to please many VR enthusiasts who are trying to have more ‘elite’ experiences with their headsets. This is meant for high-end gaming with a virtual reality headset.

The Elite is using SteamVR tracking. It is compatible with both the 1.0 and 2.0 Base Stations. The headset also works with the classic Vive wands or with the Vive Pro controllers that were shipped with the HTC Vive Pro

The Cosmos Elite is capable of the same inside-out tracking that all other Cosmos headsets have, but the face place is what sets this one apart. The black face plate that is shipping with this headset is riddled with sensors and cameras that assist in the tracking of both the headset and the tracking of the controllers.

How to Order

This is the first new headset from Vive that is going on sale. It is priced at $900. The entire package will include the Vive Cosmos Elite Headset, two 1.0 SteamVR Base Stations, and two Vive wand controllers. Inside of the box, you will also be receiving a code for 6 free months of Viveport Infinity. This is the best VR game subscription the community has to offer.

If you are interested in the headset and don’t want to dish out $900, there’s an alternative. Like we mentioned, each Cosmos headset is based the same. That means if you already have a Cosmos, the base stations, and controllers, you can simply buy the face plate. If you done have the Cosmos headset yet, but you own controllers and base stations, buying the Play will be much cheaper. You can buy the face plate for your Play when it comes out, and it will turn right into a Cosmos Elite. For more VR news and VR community updates, make sure to check back at VRGear.com
