What is the purpose of the outdated human? What roles did they play before they were overrun by the robots that we know today? In the game Virtual Virtual Reality, and with the help Activitude, you are going to find out. As a part of the Virtual Labor System, you are going to find out what it is like to be a laborer in different systems as you put on a virtual reality headset to explore over 50 different simulations.
In each simulation you are going to be tasked with different challenges. One of the first you are given is putting a good price of toast on a talking cube of butter. Because this is the first time you are doing anything in your virtual virtual reality, it may seem a little weird. It only gets more eerie. The butter wishes you to “indulge” him with a plethora of good slices of toast. Because you were given about 30 toasters to use, you will ultimately fail.
The headset then comes off and you are talking to your robot boss, the “CEO” of Activitude. He then goes over your review that the butter gave you. As you can guess, it is going to be pretty bad. After he lets you mess around in your “reality” for a bit of time, you are tossed into your next job. Virtual Virtual Reality throws all of these jobs at you in different orders every time you are playing this game.
With each task, it gets more and more complicated to please your client. If you do one thing wrong to some (or multiple to others) you are going to be tossed back to your reality to hear about what a terrible job you did, as your CEO gets on you for a bit. If you do a good job and complete the simulation, you are going to be loved on by your CEO as you look over your great review. The further you get into the game, the more you will understand how to please different clients.
This game isn’t all about doing things right. Often times you are going to find that it is much more fun to be yelled at by a client while you’re messing around than it is to be a perfect little laborer.
The gameplay itself was relatively smooth. You are going to be teleporting by using any of the buttons on your controller (not the grip or trigger) and you are going to have great control of everything around you. When you pick something up with your grip, you are going to have a white string attached to it. Once that is attached, you can move it close or further by using the thumb stick on your controller. Be careful when you are moving objects though, as one turn to the right or left can make you feel motion sick very fast.
Unlike other games, you are going to be tossed around a fair amount in this game. If you turn with the controller too much and not with your actual head and body, you will start to feel motion sickness early on in this game. The best way I found to avoid this was moving my head as little as possible, and using the controllers only when necessary.
This game could have used some smoothing on the motion of the gameplay, but other than that it is a great virtual reality experience. For $14.99 you are going to get your moneys worth with over 50 simulations for you to be a part of. Overall this game is something you could fall in love with very quickly. There isn’t a lot of action to go around, but the experience is great for first time VR users and experiences junkies alike.
