Tactical Haptics have officially announced that their long awaited VR controllers are finally ready for production. The controllers adapt tp the shape of what you are holding or controlling in VR to make it feel more real.
Tactical Haptics started as a company on kickstarter back in 2013, but ultimately never reached their goal. To everyones benefit, the company believed in themselves and bet on their future, and kept developing their products. Since that time, the company has redesigned the look and feel and even the technology, and today it’s ready for production.
Most, if not all the VR controllers are now equipped with the technology to vibrate at any time to simulate you picking stuff up. The controllers from Tactical Haptics are a bit different. They have 3 different moving metal plates inside that are weighted and can move to distribute weight differently. For example, if you’re swinging with your right hand to hit an enemy with a baseball bat, the plates will shift to the right side of your hand and controller and vibrating. It should feel much more convincing than any other controller, giving you a real life feel for the game.
Whereas location-based VR has a much higher budget than just about anyone else, we can expect these controllers to crack to the public here first, and hopefully, at some point in the not too distant future, to the public consumers.
These controllers have already been used by some private corporations for the training aspect and the realness of them. They will be great for gaming, but they have already helped plenty with training people in VR for exactly what they’re going to be experiencing in the real job.
The company is looking for location-based VR and more VR training facilities to pick the controllers up, so they plan on making announcement early 2019. With this company already making stride in more realistic controllers, we can expect many others to come out of hiding and start announcing some progress.
