Gun Club is a first person virtual reality shooting game. Although the game is relatively easy to process for most PC’s, it is just making its way to the Oculus Quest. This announcement was made just yesterday, but we can expect the game to come quickly as most Quest games have been making their debut very close to the announcement dates. This came in a conformation tweet from Binary Mill themselves, the developing studio of the game. You can check the tweet out below.
Gun Club is exactly what it sounds like. You are essentially a part of a club that is obsessed over guns. You have the ability to customize any gun inside of the game as there are plenty of options to choose from. One of the first things you do in this game is earn how to mess around in the sandbox. The sandbox is a great place to hone your skills with your assortment of rifles and handguns. In another room within the sandbox (which is basically a big empty building) you are shown how to mod, paint, and customize all of the weapons within the game. Don’t be fooled. This is nothing like a AAA FPS.
One of the biggest disappointments in this game was the gameplay itself inside of this game. When you first start you are tasked with taking down dummies that that are pieces of wood. I believed this was just the tutorial and you would eventually be facing like AI people, but that was never the case. Throughout the entirety of the game you are going to be tasked with taking down shooting dummies. Shooting people has never felt so bland and boring. This is what the game was supposed to be, but you would expect something with such a high customer rating to be a little more exciting.
I did play this game for the first time after I played a couple rounds of an exciting shooting game of Fortnite, but this game lacked anything that would keep you inside of the title for more than a few minutes. There are some fun challenges in which you are shooting moving targets that seem to be on a windmill type of thing, but that’s as exciting as it ever felt. If you are looking for a shooter VR title to simply practice your aiming and messing around with mods on a gun, look no further. You have found your match.
If you are looking for a shooter game with good guns in VR that shoot are real people or have a story to it, this isn’t your best bet. Pavlov or Robo Recall would be better suited for you. This game could’ve been leaps and bounds better if the people boards would at least move side to side or front to back. If that were the case then this game could’ve added a little more spice and flare. That was not the case as the entire game felt like I was in a tutorial. Again, if that is what you are looking for, just a game to brush up on your skills with a virtual gun in your hand, this is the best game for it.
Overall this isn’t a game I would go back to play. After a little more than a half hour in it I felt like I had run my course with it. For a price of $19.99, you are going to be left wanting a little more than you got. As fun as it is to customize your guns and shoot them, you will be left wanting a little more to do within Gun Club VR.
