Settlers of Catan is one of the best board games on the market, and has been for sometime. Last year, the board game made a big jump in technology, and made its way over to virtual reality. The game was released on all major PC headsets, and even Oculus Mobile headsets, but never was approved for the PlayStation VR headset. Tomorrow that trend will end, and PlayStation will get its shot at Catan VR.

Although this board game made its debut in 1995, it seemed late when it arrived inside of VR last year. This first came on Gear VR and the Rift, and was shortly followed by all SteamVR headset compatibility just months later. Many people believed that this game should’ve been introduced to virtual reality long ago. No one believes that more than PSVR users.

Starting tomorrow, June 25th, PlayStation VR users will finally get to join the online fun that users have been raving about for over a year. More importantly than joining PSVR fun, this game will be able to cross-play with “all major VR platforms.”

Experiment 7 was the studio to make this game, and when they finally received the incense to do so, they said this game would be “true to the classic but optimized for virtual reality.” The studio did exactly that. This game takes place inside of a virtual room with views of the Catan island outside the window. This is essentially like playing the game in real life, just simply optimized for a virtual experience.

The founder of Experiment 7 said this about the game. “The absolute best part about Catan on PS VR is the sense of social presence you get when you jump into a game with friends or online opponents,” and he went on to say that “Catan VR has a broad vocabulary of game experiences and the excitement of a great roll, the frustration of getting robbed, or the satisfaction of landing a big trade is really evident in the myriad micro-movements that you see other players exhibiting throughout the game.”

Catan VR brings a few different game modes to the virtual table. They offer solo games with AI opponents that are sure to challenge you, as Experiment 7 said that the AI players will “provide challenging tactical opponents at every difficulty level, but also express the canonical personalities that have made other versions of Catan so compelling.” This is sure to keep you coming back to the game, regardless of the availability of people to play this game with you.

In the multiplayer mode, you will be able to either play with your buddies through searching, or you can randomly create games with others look for the same group.

The game is being sold for $15 on Steam and the Oculus Store, but for $10 on the Oculus Go and Gear VR. We can expect the price of the PSVR version of this game to be somewhere between those two. Either way, this game is sure to excite many.
