Joe Ryan, the creator behind the original VRGO chart locomotion system, has launched a new locomotion system through Kickstarter. Back in 2015, the original locomotion chair raised nearly 23,000 euros in crowd funds. Ryan is feeling confident with his new invention, as it is a smaller version of his idea, and much more accessible. This new chair accessory is called the VRGO Mini.
Ryan’s Kickstarter is searching for 20,000 euros to fund its goal of shipment to customers, and with 28 days to go still, they are almost there. This is one of the campaign that is either going to get funded all the way, or they are going to stop production. If they cannot reach the goals (although they should be able to), they will scrap the entire project and go back to shipping the older models. If you want a new VR locomotion system, you’ll want to invest. For a group of guys that often feel motion sick inside of virtual reality, this is going to be an essential accessory going forward.
Instead of me trying to explain in my own words what the company is trying to do. We will use their description of it.
“Greater immersion into virtual environments is crucial to the enjoyment of VR. The VRGO Mini will offer the most immersive locomotion system on the market. With reduced Sim Sickness, and haptic feedback, it is the next step in virtual immersion.
It’s a device that sits on top of a chair that allows control of movement through virtual reality. The easy to use ’tilt-to-move’ device allows for smooth locomotion with just the tilt of your body.
Turning, and movement in game is controlled by the Mini, creating an immersive and enjoyable VR experience. Compatible with most VR headsets, and many VR games, the Mini is the most versatile Locomotion device on the market.
The VRGO Mini is suited to almost anything you can sit down on. If it has a flat surface, the Mini will work. It also comes with a free felt disk that sits under the device to protect your chair fabric.”
The locomotion system is like a 3DRudder for your whole body, as you lean, your character is going to be moving forward, all with speeds depending on your pressure to the seat. Although this will take some time to get used to inside of your virtual reality experience, you are going to be much more happy at the end of your experience or game, rather than teleporting for 20 minutes and throwing up after.
Another great feature is the haptic feedback. Because this is going to be your locomotion system inside of the game, you are going to be wanting some sort of haptic feedback while you are blasting your way through enemy walls. If you are going to be fighting other humans, you want the ability to feel their punch in your gut. With the strong haptics that are provided in VRGO Mini, you are sure to feel everything inside of your game.
The VRGO Mini is a wireless system that uses the 2.1 bluetooth to connect to your computer to interact with your headset, or with wireless headsets like the Oculus Quest, it can connect directly to it. This locomotion system is going to be one of the best on the market for some time, so investing in the future is going to be smart idea. If you are tired of the constant motion sickness that you feel when doing room scale virtual reality games, you can look forward to buying your VRGO Mini.
