Virtual reality has been rising in popularity at a rate that has seen no slowing down in the past few years. sadly, this rate has not been applied to the games that virtual reality host. At any major gaming events, virtual reality titles always have a hard time standing out. This may have a few factors play into it, and those have been prominent for sometime now. The titles on virtual reality are often short, underdeveloped compared to console games, and often lack the dynasty aspect that many console games benefit from.
Virtual reality developers have had enough of this trend, and they intend to put a stop to it. Next month, a number of independent VR developers are pulling together to make a an impact at one of the biggest gaming events of the year. They will all be showcasing at Gamescom.
The 2019 show will be held in Cologne, Germany. This will be the first time Gamescom has also featured The VR Games Showcase, as it is being put on by Perp Games. At this showcase we are going to see many VR developers hint at and release new games for the pubic eye. Some of the biggest names you will see are Fast Travel Games, Cortopia Studios, Survios, Carbon Studio, Neat Corporation, and even Resolution Games. All of these formally announced studios will be announcing new games that they are bringing to VR this year.
This event is focused on the media and content creators of the virtual industry, as this showcase will offer hands-on interaction with the games that have been made and the developers who have created them. This is a chance for many to mingle with many people who have made these games, all at once. This is something that we rarely see from VR developers… unity. This will be an event for the ages, and something we hope to see again in the years to come.
Andreas Juliusson, the Marketing and Communication Manager at Fast Travel Games was asked about this need for the showcase by UploadVR, and he said the following.
“During my years as marketer in the flat screen gaming industry, I got to see the value in being present at the biggest gaming conventions where media and content creators gathered,” Juliusson said. “The reality for most VR games developers today however, with the industry still relatively young, is that we often do not have the financial resources or the expertise to make an impact on these events by ourselves.
“This got me thinking: What if I would reach out to other studios in the same situation as us and ask them to join forces in a combined initiative, where we could share costs and efforts? I was immediately met with massive interest and soon after, we found a sponsor in global games publisher Perp Games who helped bring the initiative to life. Come August, six awesome developers are premiering with ‘The VR Games Showcase’ together at Gamescom and we could not be more excited!”
