Oculus has announced that we are going to get our first look at the multiplayer mode for the upcoming Oculus exclusive Stormland. This couldn’t come at a more opportune time than right now, as Insomniac Games was recently acquired by Sony in a deal to make exclusive games for them.
There has been speculation about what the deal means for Stormland, but the game is clearly still pushing for a 2019 release. Although this is going to be the last game Insomniac makes for Oculus, they are making sure it is going to be the best. We know this game looks something like a virtual reality Apex Legends, but beyond that, we are unsure of what the landscape is going to give us. In a FPS fashion, the multiplayer will bring excitement that has long eluded the virtual reality community.
The details on the multiplayer mode are also very limited. Nobody is sure on the amount of players that are going to be allowed in each match, although we have heard rumblings that it could end up being a 4 on 4 situation, will the ability to shrink all the way down to 1 on 1. It is also unsure how restricted the gameplay in co-op will be as well. Although we are expecting to play with other players, it seems like it will be very specific to your region, game mode, map, and what you are searching for. The servers won’t be the same size as Fortnite, so you can expect to see a lot of the same people if you are playing this game consistently.
The locomotion of this game seems to be top of the one already. With the ability to fly, glide, run, and jump in this sci-fi open-world, we are expecting a game that takes VR by storm. You will be constantly exploring, hunting for combat, and objective while you play this game, regardless of what game mode you choose to play.
Stormland is set to release in the holiday season of 2019, but we have seen projects of this size in the virtual industry be pushed back often. With that being said, Insomniac and Oculus are about their business. You can expect the game to come right on time. The entire virtual world is on their toes waiting for this game, and that’s for all of the right reasoning. Stormland will be one of the best virtual reality games up to date, and is will be an exclusive game that is sure to get Oculus more sales as time goes on.
In other Oculus game news, Lone Echo 2 and Asgard’s Wrath will also be making an appearance at PAX West this upcoming week. You will be able to play and demo both games at the event inside of the developers booth. Lone Echo was one of the best games in VR for a while, and getting a second game with the same ideas will be a huge win for Oculus going forward. Incorporating the game with the new technology of the Rift S and the Quest will be huge.
Asgard’s Wrath hasn’t been making headlines as much as Sanzaru games was hoping for, but the game is going to be an instant classic as well. The combat and exploration in this game are going to drop jaws when people play this game for the first time next week.
With Stormland making the co-op debut, Lone Echo 2 making an appearance, and Asgard’s Wrath coming out of the shadows, we are expecting a full weekend at PAX West. For more VR news and game information, make sure to check back at VRGear.com.
