Lenovo first got involved in the augmented reality world last year when they released the smartphone-powered Lenovo Mirage AR headset. This was released with an exclusive game for the headset called Star Wars: Jedi Challenges. This game was more of a collection of mini games that allowed you fight Vader and his crew, play HoloChess, and challenge the Empire in different table-top mini games. There was plenty to do on last years model, but this years AR headset is ready to give the world more fun.
Lenovo has returned to the AR market with a new and improved headset, controllers, and a fresh, new, original game for the gamers to play. This new game is going to let you play the part of six different Marvel heroes. Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, and Star-Lord. As each of these characters, you are going to be able to play and original game and story that is tailor-made for the newest Lenovo AR headset.
Along with this exciting new story mode, players will also be able to participate in a wave mode, similar to the real-life fight we saw in New York in the original avengers movie. There is also a co-op mode that will be for local play only. If you and your buddy have the new Mirage AR headset, you will be able to connect to the same WiFi and fight the biggest super villains the game has to offer. For now, those are Loki, Ronan, Ultron Prime, and Winter Soldier. Thanos hasn’t be mentioned but we are sure you wouldn’t want him standing in your living room anyway.
Lenovo is also including a pair of wireless controllers that are going to be offering six degrees of freedom. Now you are going to be able to slice, punch, and blast in every way you need to for defending our universe. As the same as last year, this headset will be shipped with an external tracking beacon that will used for tracking the headset itself, the controllers, and even the lightsaber from the 2018 model. Lenovo is making it seem like last years games will work perfectly on their newest headset. If you don’t have the lightsaber from last year, the new 6DoF controllers will be able to act as a lightsaber for the year.
As for the price of this bundle, it is on the cheaper end. It will only be $250, and is available today on lenvo.com and amazon.com.
Because this headset is going to be powered by your compatible iOS or Android device, you are going to have to download your game onto your phone. It is called Marvel Dimension of Heroes, and is free on all app stores. The phones that will be able to function in your headset are the iPhone X series, iPhone 8/Plus, iPhone 7/Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 6 series, Samsung Galaxy S9, S8, S7 series, Google Pixel XL, Google Pixel, Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z, LG G6. Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Nova 2S, Xiaomi MIX2, Sony Xperia XZ1.
We have yet to see this years versions of the controller go on sale individually, but we are sure that it will happen shortly. The entire Star Wars bundle was able to sell individual part so the set early on, so Lenovo is likely to maintain the same business practices.
The Lenovo Mirage is going to have another fun year of gaming under its belt, and the virtual and augmented industries are incredibly excited about it. For more AR and VR news, make sure to check back at VRGear.com.
