Valve Index Receives Support for Borderlands 2

0

Borderlands 2 came out on the PC VR headsets through SteamVR last year, but ever since the release of the Valve Index, the game oddly didn’t have support on the newest and nicest headset. It puzzled many. When you would try to load in with the Index, you’d be able to play, but it wasn’t a good experience in the slightest. This has all changed with a free update that was deployed to the game yesterday.

It was a free patch that came to all PCs with the game, but it was aimed at the Valve Index users. It added support for the Index controllers with a new binding named ‘2K Knuckles Config’ on the SteamVR side. On top of that, regardless of the headset you own, you’ll be able to move in the direction your hands are facing. This is different from simply moving where you are looking. This will fix a problem that people have been looking for a fix for a very long time.

On top of those two big fixes, there is an option for the FPS when you are looking through the scope. You’ll want to set this while knowing the FPS your headset is capable of. The options are 30, 60, 90, and 120 frames per second. This is going to be a big change when you are looking down your scopes.

About Time

Index users have been begging for this support for nearly year. Gearbox, the developing studio behind the game, accidentally announced Valve Index support last year. Since then, many believed the update was just around the corner. It was only a few corners, but we finally got around them and we have the update.

The game has come a long way since being a PSVR exclusive back in 2018. But like most VR titles that weren’t built for the platform, by the time it hits the last of the headsets, the newest version of the game is released. It is important to note that the Oculus Quest will likely never get any support for this game, unless you are using it with the new Link technology.

The co-op versions of this game have never been supported by PC VR headsets. Borderlands 3 is already out, and there is no support for a VR version for that either. We are hoping that Gearbox is silently working on VR support for the 3rd game, but we have yet to confirm this in any way.
