Pistol Whip had one of the best launches of all time when it comes to virtual reality. What it didn’t have though, is months of success and a wide following for more than a few weeks. There was a lot that played into this, but mostly, we think it happened to be because there wasn’t enough DLC and more scenes/songs ready to keep consumers happy. As a change of scenery, Cloudhead Games is releasing a new song next week.
The original leak came from Antony Stevens. Stevens is a marketing consultant and VR designer for Cloudhead Games, the developing studio behind the hit pistol game. He tweeted “new scene coming up. One of the reference images is called “tokyo_blade_runner_blues” so you know its going to be good.” You can check out the original tweet below.
After his tweet, about 12 hours later (which is a very long time in the Twitterverse), the official Pistol Whip twitter handle quote tweeted Stevens post by saying “Next week…” We aren’t sure who runs this account. It could very well be Stevens himself, in which this would be a truly great marketing scheme for not only him but his employing company as well. Either way, its official. Pistol Whip is getting a new scene next week.
Blade Runner
By the reference image name, we are going to twist some magical nonsense out and create a fun image in your head. An all blue, white, and black scene. The blue is a baby blue, like the sky on a cold winter morning. You look down and what do you see? A beautiful white and blue pair of roller blades. When you start moving, they seamlessly glide across the moving floor for a Pistol Whip experience like none other.
Obviously this won’t be the exact scene, but wouldn’t that be fun? We can only hope. In all realism though, we doubt they’d ever put a pair of roller blades on you in this game. Although it wouldn’t change the movement much at all, it would be an update that would be bigger and more detail-oriented than needed.
There is no word on what music will be playing while you ‘John Wick’ your way to the end of the level, but its likely a fun EDM song. If it were more popular or mainstream music, we would have likely already seen some sort of promotional tweets by now. We haven’t.
If Pistol Whip wants to be mainstream and crack into the Beat Saber realm of popularity, they’ll need to find a way to get artists on their game that are mainstream. Beat Saber did, and their popularity reached new heights. For more VR news and gaming community updates, make sure to check back at VRGear.com.
