Best VR Games

0

When you buy your first VR headset, you always realize that you aren’t equipped with the most important part of your experience. A good game. A virtual reality headset is only as good as your game, so buying the right game is incredibly important.

We have made this list of the 10 best games in virtual reality right now. This list is going to be changing regularly. If we run into a game that deserves a spot in the top 10, we will change list. So make sure to save this page or bookmark it, as we think it should be updated many times in the upcoming months.

The virtual reality industry is only growing each month, and with VR developers producing in mass right now, games are coming at you faster than ever. We are going to start with number 1 and work our way down to number 10. Some of these games are going to exclusive to a certain platform, but don’t let that derail you from your ultimate goal of playing the best games on the market

Beat Saber

Price: $29.99

Developer: Beat Games

Beat Saber is the no brainer right here. It has been the #1 game on the market for two years now, and it doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon. With Beat Games making new deals with artists regularly, Jaroslav Beck making exclusive music, and new features available with each update, this game never gets old. Our prediction is that this game won’t be dethroned for quite a while. The best time to buy this game was two years ago, and the second-best time is now.

We could write thousands of words about why Beat Saber is the best (we did that), but we will keep it brief right here.

The idea of the game is simple enough. Stand still and swing your lightsaber at the cubes that are coming your way. Make sure to not miss too many, or you will fail the level. Select your favorite songs and swing to the beat. It’s the simplicity of the idea that has made this game a powerhouse amongst all of the other games in the industry.

The lack of a locomotion system in this game is something of a genius. So many virtual reality games are unplayable because of how bad their movement engines are. Some games could be so much better if they didn’t have any movement engines at all. Beat Saber avoided this problem. Beat Games also made sure to keep this game fresh and bug-free at all times. It is hard to find VR devs that do this full time, so the fact that Beat Games is dedicated to this one game is impressive. Download this game and see what all of the hype is about, you won’t be disappointed.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim VR

Price: $59.99

Developer: Bethesda Softworks

Back in 2011, the single-player game Skyrim VR debuted on the top video game consoles in the world. Just a short five years later, the game made its way to virtual reality on the top headsets on the market. This game gives you a more detailed look a the world of Tamriel while having much more realistic interactions and fights.

Using the slightly above average locomotion system this game provides to you, you are going to be have an opportunity to roam the free world which ever way you please. This is one of the main reasons the game gets all the way to #2 on the list of best VR games, along with the included DLC. Any downloaded content that is available for purchase on gaming consoles, is free on the virtual reality headsets. This makes exploring the game much more fun and exciting.

Skyrim got popular very quickly for any game, regardless of platform. It was brought to VR by popular demand, and it quickly ranked on the Steam Store for obvious reasons. Go buy it today for a up close look at how good this game is from Bethesda Softworks.

With the latest update of the game, the graphics have been improved to something that has never been seen before. The graphics of this game on the Valve Index are some of the best on the gaming market right now. You mix all of the graphics together with the open roaming, and the fun yet challenging gameplay, and you get a top 2 VR game in 2019.

Arizona Sunshine

Price: $39.99

Developer: Vertigo Games

Don’t be fooled. Arizona Sunshine is not as pleasant as it seems. You are going to be navigating the virtual world that has been taken over by the undead. This game is and has everything you don’t want to see in your dreams. Zombies and a desert, the deadliest combo inside of VR.

Vertigo Games does a fantastic job of making sure you don’t get vertigo while inside of their game. Arizona Sunshine has a tool-scale option available, but it is best played by using the standing experience only. You are going to have zombies coming at you from every angle, so keeping your weapons ready and your sense of location is as important as ever in this game.

Another reason that this game is maintaining the top 3 spot is from the DLC that is constantly being updated and uploaded. There is going to be more maps and guns added later this year, so be ready at any moment to have the download ready. There is also an update specifically for the Valve Index, and it really beefs the game up. It includes finger tracking for added immersion, grip haptic feedback, and even better graphics. And take it how you may, but having a zombie attack you with the Index on your head is a lot more intimidating than having a zombie come at you while you have an Original Rift on your head. The Valve Index graphics are the best, and Vertigo Games does a great job of magnifying that.

Moss

Price: $29.99

Developer: Polyarc

Polyarc first made this game exclusive for the PlayStation Virtual Reality platform. The game was well respected in the VR community and was loved by PSVR users, but it never took off until it became available on all VR platforms. Because this game was specifically made for virtual reality, you can expect the graphics, locomotion system, the story, and characters to be primed when you buy the game.

In this game, you are a little mouse on a quest to solve a mystery through puzzles. This isn’t your classic jigsaw puzzle, but instead one you need to solve by finding clues all across the mossy forest. If you want to survive the cruel world, you are going to need to learn to navigate your little mouse to great heights.

If you ever read the book Ender’s Game, this game is going to bring some nostalgia with it. In a brain testing game in which Ender participates, he controls the mouse to take the Giant’s eye out. Although you are not going to be doing that exactly, you are going to be tasked with events just like that. Keep your head on a swivel and and eye out, you are the smallest creature in this fast paced virtual world.

The Lab

Price: Free

Developer: Valve

The Lab has been a work in progress for just over three years now. This game started as you have control over a basic avatar as you roam around room-scale environments and see what the developers put out for the weeks. Now, you are free to roam anything you wish to in this virtual world. Defend a princess in a castle, adopt a mechanical dog and call it your own, fix a malfunctioning robot, and even fight said robot to the death.

This is the most versatile game that virtual reality has to offer right now, and Valve is the best company to make something like this. With numerous updates a month, this game is going to stay relevant for everyone at all times. In here you are going to use guns, bow and arrows, and even swords. All of it is going to feel natural and real as well.

This game also lets you create while inside of it. This is the elite version of Minecraft, until it gets a new update of course. If all of this fun information wasn’t enough to want to download The Lab, don’t forget it is free too!

Gorn

Price: $13.99

Developer: Developer Digital

Gorn is exactly what it sounds like. No, Gorn isn’t a real world, but it sounds awfully gory right? Right. Gorn is the most violent game on the VR market, and it takes incredible pride in it. The developers are also responsible for making a game with the title “Genital Jousting”, so you can guys how intense this game is going to be on your soft soul.

Steam describes this game by saying “Featuring a unique, fully physics driven combat engine, GORN combatants will be able to creatively execute their most violent gladiatorial fantasies in virtual reality. Savagely strike down an infinite supply of poorly-animated opponents with all manner of weapons – from swords, maces, and bows to nunchuks, throwing knives, massive two-handed warhammers or even your blood-soaked bare hands. The only limits to the carnage are your imagination and decency, in the most brutal and savage VR face-smashing game ever produced by man.”

If you are wanting to draw some blood without hurting anyone real, virtual reality may be the best place for you. If you are wanting an entertaining show while playing inside of virtual reality, this game is also for you. Gorn is also very cheap compared to most games on this list, so buy today and you experience the bargain of a lifetime.

Superhot

Price: $24.99

Developer: Superhot Team

As you can tell by the developers name, the team is dedicated to bringing you the best game they have to offer across all platforms available. Superhot wasn’t made for virtual reality, but it certainly feels that way. The game throws you in a world that only moves when you do. Instead of us trying to tell you how the game works, we will let the Superhot Team describe it to you.

“Blurring the lines between cautious strategy and unbridled mayhem, SUPERHOT VR is the definitive VR FPS in which time moves only when you move. No regenerating health bars. No conveniently placed ammo drops. It’s just you, outnumbered and outgunned, grabbing weapons off fallen enemies to shoot, slice, and maneuver through a hurricane of slow-motion bullets.

BODIES ARE DISPOSABLE

MIND IS SOFTWARE

BODIES ARE DISPOSABLE

MIND IS SOFTWARE”

As you can tell by their description, it is primed for a VR experience. Playing this game on the Oculus Quest is better than any other headset as well. Because it is standalone and still a powerful machine, the headset makes a perfect home for the game Superhot. This game is only $25 and you are going to get moneys worth even just the first time you play it. This is going to be a game that is always inside of your rotation.

Google Tilt Brush

Price: $19.99

Developer: Google Studios

Google Tilt Brush the best way to create art inside of virtual reality. Although this isn’t necessarily considered a game by nature, this is one of the best apps all around inside of VR, regardless of the title or purpose. This application allows you to make art with over 60 different strokes, textures, and frequencies. You will be creating some masterpieces in here, and each one of them will be completely different.

In this app you will also have multiple ways to create and spaces to create inside of. You will be able to pick between 6 different environments when in the menu, and each of them has a different purpose. This is Google’s description of the app itself. “Tilt Brush lets you paint in 3D space with virtual reality. Unleash your creativity with three-dimensional brush strokes, stars, light, and even fire. Your room is your canvas. Your palette is your imagination. The possibilities are endless.”

There is also a mode for you to design clothing on a mannequin, something not a lot of VR apps allow you to do. If you consider yourself a creator of any kind, buying this for your virtual reality headset is imperative to your experiences.

Poker Stars

Price: Free

Developer: Lucky VR Inc.

Virtual reality is just a simulation of what real life could be, and of course, what we wish it was. When you are gambling in a video game, it doesn’t get near the thrill of gambling real dollars. Poker Stars has found the happy medium between the two activities with their newest game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vsKm4BF7HY

In this game, you will be doing much more than just gambling. You will be able to talk to, shoot, and even poke other people. This game is centered around poker, but it has plenty of features to keep you immersed for hours on end. The developers are a big studio that is decimated to keeping the game crisp at all times.

Along with being a free download, you aren’t going to have to pay to play inside of the game either. This game is very inclusive and is appealing to many people. The avatars do a great job of representing your virtual self, and with the new Valve controllers, its even easier to pick up on clues than ever before. If you are wanting a more real-life simulation while being immersed in a fun virtual world, this game is for you.

Sairento VR

Price: $29.99

Developer: Mixed Realms Pte

Pure cyber ninja fun is the best way to describe this first-person shooter game. Sairento is relatively new to virtual reality, but the masses have already adopted this game as a top title. In a futuristic world, you are a ninja that can perform triple wall jumps, power slide under the bad guys, and even slow time down.

It feels like VR gaming was made for this. Video games have been fun before, but Sairento, you are going to have fun like the elite dangerous agent you are. You are going to have plenty of weapons to choose from as well. With five different weapons at your disposal at any time, you are sure to completely wipeout the enemy.

Because this game lets you teleport (bad idea), you are going to feel some motion sickness in this game if you don’t have your VR gaming legs under you yet, you might want to stay away from this game. If you do, Sairento VR is going to the best game you can buy for a futuristic take on what mortal combat could be.

Pavlov

Price: $9.99

Developer: Davevillz

Although Pavlov is still in early access, this game deserves to be in one the top spots right now. This game is from a first-person perspective, but that might not stick for ling. This game is far from being complete, but anyone who has played it knows the power it has to become the best first-person shooter VR has even seen. If you are wanting a realistic shooter game that is not going to make you grossed out (thanks Gorn), then this game is for you.

The developer doesn’t have a massive team working on this one, so the updates are far and few, but they are very helpful. There is a handful of styles to play. There are bots you can fight against, the servers are dedicated to online play, and all of this also supports voice chat inside of VR. This is pretty impressive for a small studio developing this game.

While you play this game, you are going to realize why it is on the VR games list. This PC VR game is only going to get better, so spending a small $10 on it right now is a good investment to back the studio. It will likely become free to play in the future, but right now is still a great time to back the studio as they make their first of many immersive PC VR games.

Job Simulator

Price: $19.99

Developer: Owlchemy Labs

Job Simulator is the playground of virtual reality. Here inside of the game you will be able to play the part of any job they have inside of the game. With constant updates to the game, you are going to be presented with new jobs every few weeks. Although they cycle through, you are going to be impressed with the level of details they have incorporated into this simulation game.

This was originally one of the first Rift games, and now with expansion to the Vive, Windows Mixed Reality, and more, the game is very inclusive to all. Now with the game being updated for the new touch controllers (the motion controllers for the Rift S and Quest) and the Valve Index controllers, you are sure to experience more than ever with this game.

It feels like there is multiple titles inside of this game and it is awesome. From fixing someones car to fixing them a sandwich, you are going to be thrown in many different realties. An android will be helping you navigate this world, so you will have tailored instruction the duration of your gameplay as well.

I Expect You To Die

Price: $24.99

Developer: Schell Games

I Expect You To Die is a game that does not fit into your cookie cutter idea of what a VR game is. This game isn’t going to be full of shooting or running around mazes. Instead, you are going to be in a stationary spot in which you are solving puzzles the entire time. Each environment will be providing a new set of clues and problems that need to be solved.

When you first get into this game, you are going to fail at least 12 times before you start learning to decipher the puzzles. If you need help, you can check out a guide online, but we suggest you don’t. This game is going to much more fun if you are left alone in the experience to figure the puzzle out on your own. This isn’t one of the open-world games, but it is a good experience that can leave you puzzled for hours.

Although there has been rumors of a second game being in production, Schell games seems completely content with making this game full of new DLC every few months. With 98% positive response on the Steam Store, you are sure to hear more about this game in the near future if you are staying connected with the VR industry.

Acron: Attack of the Squirrels

Price: $19.99

Developer: Resolution Games

Although Acron is relatively new to the virtual gaming world, this game is already very popular, inside and out of virtual reality. Acrons requires two other players outside of the VR headset to be playing the game on an android or iOS device. These two or more players will be the squirrels while the person inside of the headset is the tree. From there, your goal as the tree is to defend yourself and your acorns, and the goal of the squirrels is to get the golden acorns at the top of the tree. This is one of the few VR games for android.

We pulled an excerpt out of our review of the game below, and it is sure to get you excited to play with each of the characters this game has to offer.

The four squirrels are each fun to play with. First, you’ll meet your typical tank-like character that often resembles a refrigerator. Chunk is the hefty cuddly buddy that is equipped with a shield that can defect off a certain amount of projectiles from the tree. Although chunk is the only one with shield, other characters can use him as a human shield as they need throughout the game.

Zip, a much less chunky squirrel, is going to make his mark by his speed and agility. He is able to detect incoming projectiles with his keen sense, and avoid them at a rate much higher than any other fury friend. Zip is so fast, that utilizing other teammates powers is going to be very easy. If you are using Zip, you need to have your head on a swivel at all times.

Doug, the typical squirrel that you find in your backyard on any Saturday morning, is great at getting angry. He will simply to build tunnels under the ground to get back to his lovely acorns. Lastly, Sim is going to be the one to build ramps and jumps to take off of to avoid the obstacles in place by the tree.

Robo Recall

Price: $19.99

Developer: Epic Games

Yes, you read that right. Epic Games has made other successful games other than Fortnite. This game is an Oculus Exclusive, and it certainly feels that way too. This game is perfect for the new and old Touch Controllers, and every Oculus headset, besides the media-focused Go, run this game beautifully. The motion controls are great on every Oculus system.

In a futuristic world, you are a robot among many. The masses have been deemed faulty, but of course you aren’t. You are now an agent responsible of bringing the recalled robots back to their creators, or simply destroy them. There are many ways to go about this, but there is certainly some strategy to do it right.

You are given a plethora of guns to choose from, and that’s not even the best part. You are will get creative with how you recall the robots. Our favorite way at VRGear is ripping the robots apart. Simply grab an arm, leg, head, chest and rip or throw away. This game can get very addicting and fun very quickly. There isn’t much of a story line, just levels to complete, but this still puts it as one of the best VR games up to date.

——————————

As you can see in the list above, there are plenty of quality games to play inside of virtual reality. The stigma of virtual reality not being ready for mass gaming yet is wrong, and developers are proving that every single year.

Looking forward into the gaming that has yet to hit the public, there are plenty of studios working hard. We know that Respawn Entertainment is set to release their Oculus Exclusive sometime in the next few months, and the same studio is already starting on the exclusives they have promised to make for the PSVR platform going forward.

Here at VRGear, we are certain that if you get any of the games mentioned above, you will be completely satisfied with your purchase and download.
