The Xbox Series X is on schedule to launch during the holiday season of 2020. This Xbox is the most anticipated Microsoft release in years, but aside from renders of the supposed Xbox, there isn’t much to know. The company has kept their ideas a tight secret, and the insides of the Xbox are hidden as ever.
Thanks to a Twitter leak from @Doug_DragoX, we finally have a look at the ports on the big black box of mystery. You can check out the tweet below.

There is a lot you can take out of these photos. You see the supposed power button on the bottom left and the disc eject above the disc drive. Below the power button, you’ll see a USB-A port. This comes as a surprise, as the USB-A could very well be dead within the next few years.
Other than those features, the plastic itself looks cheap. Of course, this is a prototype so it would be unfair to judge off of the outer shell. To save money and hardware, many companies will simply 3D print some of the less-important hardware pieces when booting up and testing the software and computing abilities.
The second picture it where the fun begins. In the top right hand, you see two more USB-A ports. Again, this is very likely to be dead in the next few years, if not sooner. Xbox users may be stuck with dongles hanging off of their box for the time being. Below the two USB ports, the ethernet port looks as basic as ever.
Below the ethernet connector for wired internet, you’ll see the port for the new Xbox power supply. To the left, the HDMI port is all alone. This means that there is no HDMI In port. This is something that has been featured on the Xbox for years. In the mentions of the tweets, there is a wide variety of people upset about the option being left out.
As for virtual reality exclusive connectors, there aren’t any obvious signs. No display port, no extra HDMI ports, and no extra power output options. If Xbox is going to surprise everyone and come out with a compatible headset at any time, they are doing a fantastic job of not leaking anything.
But, it is important to know that the Xbox Series X is capable of 8K video, which includes the DSC. If that is the case, then getting VR is possible. The Xbox would be capable of two different 4K streams at 12Hz. That’d be not only necessary for a good headset, but possible thanks to the new capabilities of HDMI 2.1.
It is important to keep in mind that the pictures are simply prototypes. It does say that this device has yet to be approved but the Federal Communications Commission and it is not for sale or lease. This is a barebones look, but it is telling us a lot.
