Vive Pro Gets Price Cut, Now Cheaper than Vive Cosmos

0

As of this morning, the HTC Vive Pro is going to cost only $599. This is a $200 price cut from the $799 original price point the Vive Pro recently had. This deal is only going to be for the headset itself, as controllers and tracking stations will be sold separately. This is an enterprise-focused VR headset. With all of the amazing headsets being released for businesses this week at CES, it makes sense on why HTC would want to cut the price of one of their best business VR headsets.

This officially makes the Vive Pro cheaper than the Vive Cosmos, the consumer-focused headset most recently made and sold by HTC Vive. The Cosmos costs $699 but also comes with a ‘full kit’. That includes controllers for the headset and an inside-out tracking system. If you are wanting the full kit for the Vive Pro, that is going to cost you $899. That is $100 cheaper than the Valve Index, one of the best headsets on the market right now. The Valve Index also comes with all of the bells and whistles to get you going in VR.

This new price of the Vive Pro puts it only $200 more than the Oculus Rift S and the Oculus Quest. If you are in the market for a VR headset, this new price reduction gives you a lot to think about.

It is important to remember that the Vive Pro is a business-level headset. Vive won’t stop any consumer from buying the headset, but they did make this headset with the idea of service a business with their day to day operations.

With that being said, no consumer should be considering the Vive Pro as their gaming headset or an every day headset. When the Vive Pro was released back in 2018, it was known for the resolution and the comfort it brings VR users. Since then though, many of those features have been overshadowed by more advanced headsets. The Valve Index has better resolution and comfort. The Vive Cosmos has better resolution as well, even though the headset was riddled with problems upon release.

Even for a business, there are still plenty of other great options on the market right now, and none of them have the name of Vive Pro. No matter what way you look at it, there are better headsets. Even if you are a business trying to get a headset for day to day operations, you are going to find a lot of better options for a price point that doesn’t feel too cheap.

Pimax and Varjo both have new headsets that are changing the business side of VR. As for Vive, the company seems to be headed in a new direction. It likely will be focusing on enterprise headsets once again, but they have yet to release any new hardware. Until they do, they will continue to see their sales decline.
