In our in-depth game reviews, we work to cover everything you will want to know before you go out and buy or try a virtual title. Whether it be the lack of movement in this game or the perfect controls, this game review is going to cover it all. If you think we missed anything or need to reevaluate this game, let us know in the comments below. Space Pirate Trainer is a fun game, and we are excited to review it for you today! Let’s jump right in.

Getting Up and Running

Getting up and running for Space Pirate Trainer is just as easy as any other virtual reality game. This game isn’t going to require to stretch, get stretchy clothes on, or even attach sensors in weird places on your body. The file size of this game is 3 GB so the download time will vary depending on your Internet connection. If you have a slow internet connection, this could take up to an hour to download. If you are wired into your fast Internet, you could download and install this game in less than five minutes.

You can find this game in every virtual store right now. The Steam Store, PSVR Store, Oculus Store, and evening Viveport has this game. You won’t find this game in the Viveport Infinity section. For $14.99, you are going to get one of the most polished virtual reality games when it comes to first-person shooters.

Type of Game –

This is a first-person arcade shooter type of game. If you try to put it into any other category, it simply won’t work. Inside the steam store, it is categorized as an action space game, which also is a fantastic way to categorize this game. There will be no storytelling or narrative to this game other than killing. If you were looking for a fun arcade shooter, this is going to be perfect for you.

There are four different game modes in this game, but they all are essentially the same when you get into them. The only difference will be the amount of lives you have and the duration of the waves. Other than that, you will be fighting the same pirate robots as you’re training for your new profession. There is not a lot of variety in here, but the amount of gameplay will keep you entertained for hours on end.

Player Perspective

This game is played at the first-person perspective. You will not see your arms, legs, or even your torso. You will see your hands as they control the gun. If you have the Valve Index controllers, you will recognize how good the finger tracking is while playing this game. Even during the heat of battle, your hands and fingers will be represented in the virtual world. First-person is the only perspective you’re playing in this game.

Theme and Story – Score: 8/10

There is not a strong story in this game but the theme is what carries the score to a high eight. If you are looking for a game with a lot of storyline and that’s behind your killing, this game won’t be for you. Stormland or Asgard’s Wrath will be better options. The theme is outer space war and training. Although the title has training in it, it feels a lot more like a battleground than a training ground. Not a lot, or any story here, but a strong theme is what is holding this score up.

Controls – Score: 9/10

That controls in this game are nearly perfect. The joystick is used to help you find your perfect weapon while training, and the game didn’t force you to hold the grip while you fired your weapon. There was enough input to make us feel like we had good interactions with our virtual world, but not enough to overwhelm us and confuse us during the heat of battle. Not a lot wrong here with the controls.

Music and Sound – Score: 10/10

The original soundtrack in this game is talked about plenty. The moment you jump into the game, you recognize how well it was made and how tailored it is for each and every scenario. Thanks to the music and sound, you won’t find any dull moment in this game. Whether it be on the menu or on your 39th wave of robots, you will find your self to be entertained by your ears.

Player Movement – Score: 8/10

There is no player movement in this game, and that was for the better. We find that a lot of first-person shooter games are ruined or their score is diminished because of the terrible movements in the game. This game didn’t force you to move it all, and the movements you made with your head were perfectly mapped to the real world. For this game to get a higher score, a little movement would need to be included.

Kinetosis – Score: 9/10

The motion sickness in this game is nearly nonexistent. If you are looking for a game that is a great game to show newcomers to virtual reality, this would be a great pic. You are disoriented when you get hit by a bullet, but it seems like that was intended to discourage players from getting hit continuously. There are game modes that your lives are turned off, so if you were trying to avoid getting motion sick, simply dodge the bullets.

Environment and Immersion – Score: 10/10

There is a lot that goes into the environment and immersion score, and this game does everything in its power to get a 10, and it did. From the perfect sound to the good controls, you will be thrown into a New World while you play this game. Although you technically aren’t on the planet, you will feel like you are experiencing a new reality for the first time. This is a great game to show newcomers and experience virtual reality players if they are looking for an immersive experience.

Overall – Score: 9/10

This game is walking away with one of the highest scores as we have ever given any virtual game. This is one of the best first-person shooters we have played in a while. For only $14.99 you can play this game and I own it as well. There is not a new DLC coming out anytime soon, but the amount of robots and game playing this game will leave anyone entertained for weeks.
