Racket NX is a fast paced VR game that is simulating a game that reminds many users of racketball. This game puts a fun spin and a futuristic feel to a game that many already know so well. This game is a part of the Viveport Infinity subscription, and can be bought on SteamVR for $19.99. Before we review this game, we will let you in on a little secret. This game is worth every single penny you are going to pay for it.
The tutorial is fast and efficient. You learn how to hit the ball and where to hit it, you learn how to pull the ball towards you, and you learn how to access more energy throughout your levels and matches. Each one of these things will be new to you, but each one will feel completely natural and real to you. The racket will start out in your right hand, but you will be able to switch it to your left hand if that is what you prefer by simply pulling the trigger on your left hand. The game is very playable with only one controller. To pull the ball towards you, simply pull the trigger on the hand your racket is in.
The racket and tracking know which way you exactly want to hit the ball, and each swing is going to feel more and more natural. This is something the developers worked long and hard for. Your wrist movements in this game are a large part to your success. Because the trackers are only tracking your hands and head, not your arm speed, moving your wrists quickly is the key to success. Keep in mind that the spin you wish to put on the ball will likely not translate to your gaming experience.
There are three different game modes on this title as those are Solo, Arcade, and Multiplayer. Each one of these games are going to give you something different to do and a new and exciting challenge. If you choose to go with the arcade route, you are going to have a literal endless amount of fun. If you are worried about losing too much energy or not completing levels, or even just want a slow intro to Racket NX, this is the game mode to try. Everything that challenges you inside of Solo and Multiplayer is going to be erased inside of Arcade.
Solo mode is a challenging yet fun way to get into the game. Each level you are going to be faced with new challenges. In this mode your competition is yourself, your energy, and your time. This will keep things interesting as you are progressing in each wave and in each level. Each has a new twist and challenge, making it a progressive and learning game mode that you will never get tired of. If you love advancing is games and getting further along, keep this game mode as your number one favorite, you will not be disappointed.
Multiplayer mode is another fun place to get lost in. In this you are competing against other real players as you put your racket skills to the test. You are going to get a kick out of this if you love competing. You are going to be able to play against random people or against friends with this game. If you look down during any of these matches you can see where the “front” is. this helps with orientation a good amount.
Overall this is going to be game you will want to spend money on. It is available on all headsets except the Oculus Quest right now, but will be making its way very shortly. For $19.99 this is something that you do not want to pass up for the time being.
