Racket Fury: Table Tennis VR Review

0

Racket Fury is one of the most popular ping pong/table tennis games inside of VR up to date. This game is widely known for their outstanding graphics and their incredible physics. Everything about this game makes makes sense, and you can’t go wrong investing your time and money into this game.

When you first start the game up you are going to be standing in front of the virtual table. On the there side you are going to see a floating robot with no legs. This will be your opponent and partner for playing ping pong in your virtual time in this game. You have the option to go through a tutorial, but if you are pretty familiar with ping pong, then you can forgo this tutorial and focus your time on playing the game. You then will be playing sets to 11 points, and you need to win two sets to advance. The first robot you play will be defeated easily, but it only gets harder.

Once you return to the main menu you have many options to choose from. You can play against the computer in this game for a multitude of levels and challenges. This mode, called Championships, is something you can get lost in for hours on end. This mode will challenge you up to points of frustration, but the competitiveness feels natural and real even with your VR headset on. This mode feels like a tournament setting and will keep you going for a while as you get lost in this fun virtual space.

The physics of this game are incredible. The best place for them to be showcased in this game is the practice mode. This mode is when the ball feels even more free to do what it naturally does. There is no score in this game mode and there is no competitive nature. The practice mode is a fantastic c place to hone your skills and brush up on technique. You will always be the person serving in this game mode and the balls are unlimited. Simply pull the trigger in your non-paddle hand and release as you hit the ball with your paddle.

In the settings of this game you can choose whether spin has an impact, if you can smash balls, and if the ball has a trail. Learning how to put spin on a ping pong ball in real life can be hard, and doing it with a virtual controller is even harder. We have taken a comment from Quara about how to put great spin on a ping pong ball. These techniques should be applied the same way in virtual reality as they will all work the same. This comment was made by Anthony Chuah.

  1. Angle of approach of paddle. You do not hit the ball so much as “scrape” the ball really, really hard, like if you were trying to give it a friction burn.
  2. Wrist movement. Turn your wrist with a sudden, explosive movement right before touching the ball.
  3. Using your core and legs. When serving, your body should be twisting (as if throwing a punch), and this is even more true when looping. Only in close-table chopping will you not use your body weight much.
  4. Strength. Go to the gym and increase the strength of your legs, core, forearm (for wrist movements), and various arm muscles.

Overall this game is something you will love to play if you love ping pong in real life. If you aren’t a fan of ping pong in real life, chances are you aren’t going to love this game. The physics and gameplay are as real as it can be.
