The mixed reality headset that was announced by Lynx earlier this week is apparently selling faster than anticipated. The CEO of the France-based startup said in a tweet today, “We had to change our forecast of volume for mass production😳, this is incredible.”

The Lynx mixed reality headset features powerful front-facing cameras that allow for full-color image passthrough. Along with a VR-like head-mounted-display will enable customers to experience high-resolution mixed reality that approaches what augmented reality aspires to.

The Lynx headset is “The first standalone Mixed Reality headset (AR + VR)” according the the lynx-r.com website. This means the Lynx does not need to be tethered to a computer to operate.

The Lynx features powerful compute with the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2. It has 6 cameras paired by 2s to provide black and white, infrared, and visible light images for slam processing and mixed reality passthrough.

Hand tracking is also advertised as available out of the box. The Oculus Quest didn’t offer hand tracking as a non-developer feature until recently.

We don’t have a lot of information about what it’s like to use the Lynx Mixed reality headset, we’ll keep you informed as more information becomes available.

The Lynx is currently available for pre-order on the Lynx-r.com website with an estimated ship date of “mid 2020.”
