I Expect You To Die Review

0

I Expect You To Die is one of the best games inside of virtual reality. This game is a puzzling escape room inside of your headset that will leave you frustrated while playing. This game is meant for those who are cool under pressure, enjoy a challenging mystery, and those who can make split second decisions while living with the outcome. Don’t be fooled, this game is not a walk in the park. I would compare it to maze running on your way out of a prison. Be ready to take some shots while hopefully outsmarting those around you.

This game starts with you sitting down in an office while an unnamed boss is guiding you through the basics of being a spy in the modern virtual world. In here you will learn how to shoot your revolver, make objects hover, and even grab objects from across the room. This game doesn’t limit your mobility even though you will be sitting down the entire time of playing. Everything you are going to learn in this office will be essential to beating all five levels of this game, so pay close attention while you are being taught the ways of a spy.

We will jump into what each of the five levels hold for you in a minuet, but for now let’s discuss the gameplay of this game. Because you are sitting down you don’t need any type of locomotion inside of this game. This is an incredible idea for virtual reality, as many games seem amazing until they start making you motion sick within minutes of moving around in the game. I Expect You To Die doesn’t let that happen, sitting down is the best and only way to play this game.

The physics of this game were great. When playing VR it is often a worry of objects not behaving how they should inside of your headset. Doing this right will lead to more immersion and will give the gamers something that has real weight. I Expect You To Die gives you a real feeling of being a spy as your are nearly fully immersed inside of this virtual reality.

Playing this game with Oculus Touch controllers is the way to go. You have the grip buttons conveniently placed on the back of the controller and the trigger button right where you need them. This game hasn’t been optimized for the newest versions of Oculus controllers that were sent with the Quest and Rift S, but there is no difference while playing this game. Picking objects up from across the room can be tedious at times but the smooth gameplay makes up for any downfalls from the new Rift S controllers.

Overall the gameplay is something that will leave you wanting more. It is smooth and easy enough to be played again, but the story is the hard (and best) part of this game. I Expect You To Die is a game that is hard to take off of your forehead.

The first level is the most simple of them all. You are tasked with getting the car you are placed in out of the airplane that it is being shipped in. Although it is going to take a few tries to get your mission completed, by using the clues placed inside of the doors around you, you are going to be able to complete this mission. After mission one, your job only gets harder.

Mission five is going to take the longest and is definitely the hardest, but the ending of this story is something you are going to want to wait for. Let us know in the comments below what your favorite level was, and for more daily VR news and game reviews, make sure to check back at VRGear.com
