Facebook Buys Sanzaru Games, Developers Behind Asgard’s Wrath

Facebook has officially bought Sanzaru Games, the developers behind the hit Oculus Exclusive ‘Asgard’s Wrath’. This game has been highly recognized as one of the best VR games of 2019 and is by far one of the best Oculus exclusive games that has been released. Oculus and Facebook are going to have Sanzaru Games join the Oculus Studios as an ‘independently operated studio”, but they will still be following the directions of Oculus and Facebook going forward.

Facebook has stated that they will not be disclosing the terms of the deal. Sanzaru Games will like follow the same approach.

Facebook seems to be on the hunt for more VR developers to work for them, as Sony and others are compiling developer talent for all of their platforms. After Sanzaru’s great work with Asgard’s Wrath, this purchase makes perfect sense for both sides. They have been a long-time partner with Oculus, already making four exclusives for the Rift platform.

Ripcoil, VR Sports Challenge, MARVEL Powers United VR, and of course Asgard’s Wrath, have all been produced by Sanzaru Games.

Facebook is one of the many companies that is selling their hardware ay a loss, but making their money by selling great amounts of software to their customers. Getting a great game maker will continue to allow the Quest and Rift S to be sold at prices that are far better than any other consumer headset with the same power.

“We can confirm the vast majority of Sanzaru will be joining the Oculus Studios team,” a statement from Facebook explains. “We’re exploring many ways to accelerate VR, and 2020 is going to be an incredible year for VR game launches and announcements…This is just one of the many amazing VR announcements we have in store this year.”

As many know, Oculus hasn’t announced any hardware released for 2020. With that being said, we wouldn’t rule it out just yet. With the cancelation of the GDC, many companies are still working on getting all of their releases and announcements out to the consumers. We saw Vive come out and show off the new Cosmos, and we can expect more announcements from Oculus in the coming weeks.

The company pulled from the Game Developer Conference, but they have their own F8 developer conference slated for May. Between these two events, Oculus is usually announcing their biggest releases throughout the year.

This is an exciting time for Oculus and the VR world. What fo you think Oculus will announce next? For more VR news and community updates, make sure to check back at VRGear.com
