The average VR consumer has heard no exciting news in the past few weeks regarding games, except the re-release of No Man’s Sky. Codemasters Studio changed that this morning with the release of DiRT Rally 2.0 with added VR support. This is not only exciting news for VR gamers, but for racing enthusiasts as well.
Codemasters Studio confirmed earlier this year that they were exploring the idea of adding virtual reality support to their hit game, but nothing was ever set in stone with the public. There was no hype built up from the studio for their 2.0 update of DiRT Rally, instead they let the game do the talking. The original DiRT Rally was available on the Oculus Rift back in 2016 and it provided the best racing title available, although it was only available for the Rift at the time. Codemasters Studio doesn’t work for Oculus, so they will not be making this game exclusive once again. They have now added OpenVR support that will include the ability to have Steam users play this game. This means it will be available on the Oculus Rift S, HTC Vive and Vive Pro, and even the new Valve Index.
If you already have the 2.0 version of this game, this overhauling update will be completely free to download. If you don’t have the game just yet but you are interested in buying it, you can locate it in the Oculus Store and the SteamVR store for a simple $59.99, and $79.99 for the Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition will include a plethora of included features. They are listed below.
Deluxe Features
- Porsche 911 RGT Rally Spec
- Upgraded ‘My Team’ starter cars
- x5 Early vehicle unlocks added to your team garage
- The DiRT Rally 2.0 Deluxe Edition also includes:
- DiRT Season I:
- x3 tracks
- x5 cars
- In-Game Bonuses
- High reward events
- DiRT Season II:
- x3 tracks
- x5 cars
- In-Game Bonuses
- High reward events
DiRT Rally 2.0 does not plan to add PlayStation VR to the list of compatible headsets, but they have a reliable option to play this game as well. PSVR users can simply buy the original game and put it in their console and be ready to go. DiRT Rally is PSVR compatible and the experience is pretty great. Codemasters have made it very clear that they are looking to be inclusive to VR gaming as much as ever before.
Ross Gowing, the game director of DiRT Rally at Codemasters said that “Since launch, our community has been very vocal about wanting a VR version of DiRT Rally 2.0, so we’re delighted to bring this to the PC version. It turns out that for many of our players VR is the only way to experience a rally game, and this will enable them to enjoy playing like never before.”
DiRT Rally features over 50 of the best rally cars in the world right now, as well as locations to race all across the globe. You will be able to travel to and race in New Zealand, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Australia, and the USA. Each of the tracks in these countries will be identical to those you see in real life. If you are a rally lover, this game is going to be perfect for you. As you know, it is hard to find a real digital rally experience, but DiRT Rally and Codemasters have finally brought something close to the real thing. With a VR headset on, it is going to be easy to get lost in the virtual world of racing.
