VRobot is a virtual reality game that is going to put you in the position of being a good robot, built by humans, that is tasked with destroying and undoing all of the bad and evil things the other robots have done in the world in front of you. This is an original idea with original gameplay, and is a game that is likely not going to be replicated anytime soon. If you are one to love the idea of being a robot, this game is for you.

From the way you get around like a big robot, to the best way to attack enemy structures, our in-depth game review will have everything you are wanting to know. We want to cover everything you could want to know before you go out and buy or try a virtual reality game. If you think we missed anything, let us know in the comments and tell us how we could make it a better reviewing experience! VRobot is a fun one, and we are excited to review it for you today. Let’s jump right in.

Getting Up and Running

This game requires at least 2 GB of memory on your PC to get download and installed, but it is going run much better if you have more room than that. If you are connected to faster internet connections, you will be downloading this file and installing it within a short few minutes. If you are connected to some slower internet, you will be waiting possibly north of 30 minutes to fully download and install this game. It isn’t the longest download, but it does take some time.

This game can be found on the Viveport Store, Steam Store, and even the Oculus Store. You will also able to buy VRobot from the PSN Store. The price of this game changes across each platform you look to buy it from. The Steam Store is going to have this game at $14.99, but often discounted. The Oculus Store is going to keep this game at $9.99, and never put it on discount. If you go through Viveport and Infinity, this game will be coming at you for no extra cost. This game starts up and gets into gameplay like any other virtual reality game.

Type of Game

This is an action game with Robo simulations and a lot of destruction. There isn’t much strategy in this game, other than search and destroy. You’ll want to prioritize the living robots over the works of the dead, but that is something we will let you figure out for yourself. There is a lot to figure out in this game, but it won’t require you to be doing puzzles of any sort. This is a fun game that doesn’t require too much thinking.

There is a multiplayer mode that is still growing in popularity, but it sent everything you would hope for. It is pretty simple and not too much variety in what you can do. You can upgrade your weapons and make everything a little better, but that won’t add to the story too much. There is a lot to do in this game, so jump on in and see what it’s all about!

Player Perspective

You will be playing VRobot from the first-person (first-robot?) perspective and will maintain that perspective throughout the entire time in this game. You will see your entire hand and wrist, but you won’t be seeing anything else. You won’t be bothered by being forced to avoid looking at your arms, legs, or even massive robot body. You are going to be much larger than other objects in this game, but it won’t be too disorienting after a few short minutes inside of this game.

Theme and Story – Score: 6/10

The story and theme in this game was lacking, especially after realizing how well the game did in all of the other categories. The reason you are destroying the city that was recently built wasn’t too thought out, and the theme was often full of holes. There wasn’t a lot done in this area that was right, but there was enough of the little things to think of because the variety throughout. We wish it could’ve been better, but this isn’t completely broken.

Controls – Score: 8/10

There is one glaring problem with the controls, and other than that, they are nearly perfect. The problem is that to throw an object you would need to press the trigger. That is completely different than most of the other games people will come across inside of VR. It didn’t change the game, bit it wasn’t continuous with all of the other virtual reality experiences out there right now. This is something most will want to take into account when they are making a game, ensuring the community will be comfortable with the controls.

Music and Sound – Score: 6/10

You would hear the sound of planes, wind, sometimes rain, and even cars. Other than that, it didn’t feel like much. An upbeat continuous soundtrack would’ve given this area another point or two, but it isn’t needed to get an above-average score. Some work could be done here, but it isn’t critical as of now.

Player Movement – Score: 8/10

Teleportation was the main way you would move in this game, and it worked well. The game would let you teleport almost anywhere inside of your city, and on top of that, you were able to re-orient yourself as you were in the air. This made for a seamless experience, but it could have bit a bit better if the close-quarter movement was nailed down just a little more. Until then, an 8 is still a great score here.

Kinetosis – Score: 8/10

Because you are so limited on what you can do to re-orient yourself, this game doesn’t make you feel too motion sick the entire time. Of course, you are going to still feel it if you are all over the entire city in a matter of seconds, but other than that, this is a great game for new VR enthusiasts to get their hands dirty and their feet wet. VRobot is a great starting and finishing point for anyone inside of VR.

Environment and Immersion – Score: 8/10

The environment and immersion in this game was top notch. All of the other scores make this game have a level of immersion that is hard to match. As for the environment, it is easy to understand how to function in it while thriving. A high score here for a game that nearly put the time in to make a game that is worth playing, regardless of your history.

Overall – Score: 7.3/10

The score does a pretty good job of representing how we felt playing this game. If you are looking for a game to play that is a fun Robo simulation, this is going to be the one for you. There are plenty of other games on the top charts right now that are fun, but the uniqueness of this game is going to carry it a long way. For no extra cost when going through Viveport Infinity, this is a game worth downloading.
