Ironlights is a virtual reality game that is in the works. It is expected to be launched this the spring on all virtual reality headsets. It started as secret project from E McNeill but quickly turned into something the entire community has been looking forward to. McNeill has produced four other virtual reality games that all took home awards of their own.

As of the time of this writing, the funding was a whole $8,869 more than the original goal. It completed its goal of 15K long before the end of the final week.

Ironlights is different sword melee game than the usual that you see inside of virtual reality. It is turn based, meaning that if it is your turn, you can only strike. If you are on the defensive side, you can only do you best to dodge and parry the incoming attacks. This takes away the spam hits that you find many people using in games like these. There is strategy and timing in Ironlights, something VR badly needs.

The physics in this game are second to none. Each weapon has been carefully worked with inside of the virtual space to ensure that the momentum and real physics aren’t altered. When you start going into an attack, your body will start to move in slow motion. This will allow you to move the way you want to in the virtual space and real space without any funky movements. This is a movement system that seems like it’ll work really well inside of a VR headset.

On top of this movement, at the end of each hit and each turn, your weapon will shatter. This will help with the disconnect players feel when their virtual self stops moving, but their real arm keeps going forward. McNeill says to think of this as if it is “sort of like a VR version of Street Fighter or Soul Caliber, mixed with SUPERHOT and maybe a dash of Beat Saber.” Ah, yes. All of the best virtual reality games wrapped into one!

The game will be available on all platforms for only $20 upon release. If you decide to back the kickstarter, you’ll receive your copy of the game for a discounted $15. If you decide to pledge more than $30, you’ll receive extra in-game packs and early access to the game for whatever headset and system you choose.

This is slated to release in the next few months and we couldn’t be excited for the launch. For more VR news and community updates, make sure to check back at VRGear.com
